The Good Ones

The first few days, I spent my time with a large group of people from Pakistan. One of these people is a woman from the US named Jennifer. We met each other on Facebook and were quickly married. While we both came from different places, we came to this place for the same reason: to serve Allah and His religion.

A month later, we met in the same place, but we moved closer to the center of the city, where we found a community that was much bigger. There are people of every ethnicity and religion here, and a huge community of people who want to follow Islam. The people in the community we met are very welcoming and they were all very generous. They would let us take our car in for free, let us pray at the Mosque, and pay a very small fee for their mosque. In short, they made us feel as though we were part of the mosque and as if we muslims marriage were in their home. It was the same as if they were a family member or neighbor, who also came to their mosque for prayers.

I felt welcomed. There was no shame or embarrassment. We were allowed to be ourselves edmonton muslim and speak the language without any fear. Most of my Muslim friends were friendly and nice people. We had many conversations where we discussed many of the issues in the western world. In addition, there were many times when I could just ask a Muslim person a question, and it would be answered in Arabic. I am so thankful to God for bringing these people together and to the west.
