"It was really hard." Despite being a member of an already-strong community, Kim says she still feels "tied up with all these things." "I don't know where I want to be. Where is my voice? "And I was like, 'Well, there's no shame in being in a relationship, if you want it to be, but if you don't want to be in a relationship, then that's totally okay.' It was really freeing. I just had a lot more freedom." She feels as though her life has changed in terms of her social life, too. "I think being open about myself, and being comfortable in my own skin, is just so important. I was just a big tomboy, but now I have a lot of confidence, I really like my body, and it's just a lot better for me." I ask Kim if she has ever felt like a failure. "Yeah," she responds, "I don't feel like I have done anything wrong. It's the way that I was raised and that I was given. But I feel as though I was never allowed to express myself, to be who I am. I didn't grow up with a lot of people who look like me, and we were always told that it was the way things should be." I ask her if she thinks people's attitudes towards immigrants will change. "I don't know, I think that people will probably keep going as they are now, but I think that it will be a lot more more relaxed. People are kinder now. People are not afraid of the dark anymore, it's more accepted. It's easier to say no." Aisha agrees, "I think the society will come a lot more open now." She continues, "We are now allowed to have open relationships, and people have more rights than before.
