What is a shofen?

A shofen is a very simple dish, usually prepared as an appetizer or entree to accompany an Arab lunch.

3/4 Cup Vegetables (I used Chinese Cabbage) 1 tbsp Soy Sauce 1 tbsp Shoyu or mirin 2 tsp White Pepper 1 Tbsp Ginger, Chopped 1 tsp Garlic, Fresh 1 tsp Brown Sugar 1 tsp Chili Powder (or 2 tsp ground cumin) Directions: 1. Add the vegetables to a food processor and pulse until the vegetables are chopped into small bits. Add a tablespoon of soy sauce, and pulse until a thin sauce forms. 2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the shoyu, white pepper, ginger, garlic, sugar and chili powder. 3. Add the vegetables mixture and toss to combine. 4. Once the mixture has been thoroughly mixed, divide into bowls and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. 5. When ready to serve, heat a large saute pan over medium heat and lightly saute the chicken in the mixture. 6. Transfer to a serving dish and serve immediately.
