Solo Muslims and Non-Muslims in Columbia: The New Community

The most important thing to know about Columbia, New York is this: Muslim Americans are everywhere. They make up an estimated 13 percent of the population, but they make vivastreet pakistani up more than half of the city's Muslims. A recent survey found that Muslims make up the largest single group among the city's Muslims. And a majority of them are unmarried. But that doesn't necessarily mean they're single, or they're not having sex. According edmonton muslim to a 2011 report from the American Jewish Committee, a significant number of Muslim women are in fact practicing a form of premarital sex. While the report's authors argue that many of these women may actually be having sex, it doesn't mean they're not married. And it's also worth noting that most of these women aren't even single. "We don't have the statistics on the actual number of people that are married in these populations, but we do know that there are a lot of Muslims living in America who are married and living a life of celibacy," said Marjan El Fares, director of community engagement at the American Jewish Committee. The report's authors say that while the majority of American Muslim women are married, the number of women who are single is growing, especially among immigrant Muslim women. "The numbers of immigrants are growing, and some of them may be married and live a celibate life," said El Fares. "It's still very much a Muslim community that doesn't have this much of a muslims marriage presence in American society. So these statistics are very much an indicator of the overall Muslim community." The report suggests that "the majority of immigrant women are not living in a traditional Muslim society like that of the American Muslim community." So, for instance, in Bangladesh, women can get married without much trouble. "But the fact that there are more young Muslim women in the USA who are single and live a celibate life, that's pretty extraordinary," said El Fares. There's a reason for this, he believes. There are no good, established sweedish men sources for Muslim women's stories of dating in the US. "There's sex dating bristol a lot of anecdotal reporting of Muslim American dating. Some of the women report a number of times to have done that. But very few, very few, are actually willing to go public with their stories." In contrast, El Fares and some others have begun a social media campaign on "Meet Muslim Dating in the U.S." to give young Muslim American women the chance to go out and date and be dating. "The hope is that these women would then share that they've been successful in dating," he said. "And that there would be people like us who would stand up and say, 'You know what? We have something to offer and it's the only way that Muslim Americans are going to be successful.' "

For now, this group of young, educated women are not as numerous as they would like them to be. Most of them have left home when they turned 18, El Fares said, and most have married their indian matrimonial sites in canada American husbands. (Some of these women have already gotten American citizenship, he said.) But in most cases, they have been able to have children.

El Fares said he wants to continue this campaign, but knows it is unlikely that his group will be able to sustain itself in its current form for much longer. "I'm hoping that the next generation is as intelligent and as intelligently educated as we are," he said. "We've just got to keep going."

El Fares and his co-founder, Iqbal Ahmed, have just turned 18. Ahmed said he is "100 percent" certain that his father and his brother will be dead before they turn 18. He said his sister and a brother-in-law, both American citizens, "are the best people in the world, and we don't know if they're going to come here." But he believes that in a few years, the situation will be vastly different for his family.

Ahmed said the group is also going after men from the United States and Israel, as well as European countries. El Fares and Ahmed will be in Cairo this weekend, where they'll be participating in the Cairo international youth conference. "I'm a big believer that the world is changing. I think things are going to go up and up. If I don't get to my goal, it will be because of my uae girls lack of effort and not because of what they're doing." He also plans to visit Saudi Arabia in the next few months, and even Egypt in the future. In a recent conversation with the New York Times, Ahmed was quoted as saying, "I hope to see the end of terrorism. I hope to see my people be free from their oppressive governments and their oppressive religious systems. I hope that I will be free and I will see the world as I wish it to be, which is a beautiful place. I'm very hopeful."

A year ago, Ahmed was a student at the University of Southern California. Now he is a student at Columbia, and at age 17 he is making headlines for being the youngest person ever to marry a man of Saudi Arabian descent. The wedding has become one of the most anticipated events in the Muslim world.

Last year, it was reported that one third of Muslims living in the United States have a cousin living in Saudi Arabia. Ahmed is only the third to do so. Ahmed is currently dating a man named Abdullah.

Ahmed married Abdullah in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on October 6, 2014. Abdullah, a 24-year-old who recently started his own business, is a member of the Al-Khalifa (clergy) and lives in Riyadh.
