If there is one piece of advice you would give to people dating muslims, it is this: "It is not the place of a person of good faith to judge a person who is not of faith. Hi, my name is David and I have been in Florida for a little over a year now and this is my first article. I hope you find this article interesting and informative! I am from Florida and I was living in a pretty typical American Muslim household. Our kids were both born in the US and lived in the US for quite some time. I started noticing in the late 80's that the way I would dress and act in public and interact with the public, particularly in public places was changing, and the most notable changes were my religious attire and my appearance. It's pretty much the same today. When I was a child, I was raised as a devout Muslim who spent a lot of time in the mosque, attended prayers, and learned the Islamic faith by studying a lot about it, which was of course very difficult and expensive. The most difficult part about Islam was the lack of an understanding of it in everyday American English. There is not a single word to describe the Islamic faith in a day to day conversation. In fact, we were taught that the entire concept of Islam is not even Arabic at all! So we didn't even know what the word "Islam" actually meant. This has definitely changed now. Nowadays, it's not uncommon to see a non-believer asking an "Islamic convert" what "Allah" is and the answer would be an obvious "Allah" which means "God". This has also been true with many other religions since the dawn of time. So I am here to tell you, you can learn about Islam in everyday American English and you will be surprised by the vast differences and the lack of confusion.
The "Islamic" name used to refer to Islam comes from the Arabic name Allah. It is a translation from the Arabic word أَرْسَلَ أَمْسَنِ (al-aqsa). Allah was the first word of the Quran and it refers to "the One Who created all things from nothing, Who knows the truth and is the source of wisdom". That is why the Quran often says "Allah knows the truth" and not "Allah knows what is the truth". This "Allah" is not "God". This meaning is a literal translation of the word "Allah" which is found in the original Arabic. As a rule, Muslims will always use the plural form of the Arabic word (e.g. "Muslims" as opposed to "Muslim Arabs". In a word, the Muslim is like a "mushroom" to many Christians and Jews, even though the Arabic language and the word "Allah" do not have the same origin. The Quran says: " And We made the earth as a mercy for the people; therefore Allah has made the people of it a people whom they have been commanded to worship. And in it is found the best of creatures" (4:34).
