The first women edmonton event is planned for September. I have no idea who will take over the leadership of the organization (it will probably be someone new) but the goal is to reach the city's 500 or so female students by the time the convention comes to an end in mid-October. I'm hoping I can make a big impact by providing the same level of attention I gave the Edmonton Women's Resource Centre, and I'm hoping that my involvement will go a long way toward making sure that happens. This event will not be the first women edmonton event (and hopefully not the last) but it will be a sign of things to come. I'd like to think that more women will get involved in the future. For now, I'd like to help in any way I can. I hope you'll join me in this effort, and that we can make sure that women's voices get heard.

About me: I'm a senior majoring in journalism at the University of Alberta, where I'm also a member of the journalism student union. I also attend several events here in Edmonton. In addition, I host a podcast called Unconscious Bias, in which I play a game called "Which of these would make you the most likely to say 'that's not a man's voice?'?" This is my take on the issue, based on my own experiences, and the experiences of many others.

I believe that Islam, and Islamism, are two very different things.
